Follow these steps to install INFORMATICA on WINDOWS 7

STEP 0:At least two database user accounts are required to host INFORMATICA repository :
  • POW_REP for the repository Database
  • POW_DOM fro the domain Configuration Database
For Oracle, you must perform the following instruction :
CREATE USER POW_REP IDENTIFIED BY POW_REP 
DEFAULT tablespace users
TEMPORARY tablespace temp
quota unlimited ON users;
 
GRANT CONNECT, resource, CREATE VIEW TO POW_REP;
 
CREATE USER POW_DOM IDENTIFIED BY POW_DOM 
DEFAULT tablespace users
TEMPORARY tablespace temp
quota unlimited ON users;
 
GRANT CONNECT, resource, CREATE VIEW TO POW_DOM;

STEP 1:Set all the enviornamental variables.
1) Go to start button.
2)Right click on COMPUTER and select Properties in selection tab.
3)A window will open,in that to the left side select 'Advanced System Settings'.
4)Click 'Enviornamental Variables' button.
5)Now you can see two windows one naming 'User variables for <your system name>' and other  'System Variables'

6)Click 'New' Button for 'User variables' and  a window will pop up. In that give name as 'INFA_HOME' for that set path as, 'C:\Informatica\PowerCenter8.6.0'.
7)Now come for 'System Variables' Window and search for 'Path' name by scrolling down.Select the 'Path' and click 'EDIT'.Then append ;C:\Informatica\PowerCenter8.6.0\server\bin;C:\app\<your -system name>\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN. The paths should be seperated by ';'. The path mentioned here are for, informatica server and database.
8)Now in the 'System Variables Window' create 'INFA_DOMAINS_FILE'  by clicking new button and give path to it as 'C:\Informatica\PowerCenter8.6.0\domains.infa'
9)As in the step 8 create another system variable by name 'INFA_JAVA_OBTS' and set path as,C:\Informatica\PowerCenter8.6.0\java\bin.
What happens if you do not set these enviornamental variables before?
you will end with error like, NOT ABLE TO PING THE DOMAIN.
STEP 2:Making your installation file compatible.
1)Go to the .exe file of informatica server.In my case it is C:\Users\<my -system name>\Desktop\Informatica\informatica\Infa_server\Server\Windows\Disk1\InstData\VM
2)Right click on the .exe file and select 'Troubleshoot Compatibility'.Follow the steps and this makes your installer compatible to your windows version.
STEP 3:Start installation.

Step4:- Next screen is the welcome screen. Say –> Next.

Step5:- If you are installing Inforamtica PC 8.6 first time, select Install option. In case of upgrade from 8.1.1, 8.5 or 8.5.1, select upgrade to PowerCenter 8.6

Step6:- License key.
It is the time to provide a valid license key to Installation wizard. You can find this key in installation cd.

Step7:- Say –> Next

Step9:- Provide Installation directory.

Step10:- HTTPS configuration.
This configuration will enable secure communication between Admin console and Service manager.
If you are not an advanced user, don’t think too much about this option at this moment. Just let it be like this image.

Step11:- If firewall is enabled in the OS, it may prompt you to allow access for Java.
No need to worry much at this moment, Just click “Allow access”.

Step12:- Now installation wizard will start actual process. It may take about one minute. You will be having screens like..

Nothing to worry. Just wait and watch.
Step13:- Its time to create a new domain. I assume that this is the first installation of Informatica PowerCenter 8.6 on your Windows 7 OS.
Select –> Create New Domain.

it may take a moment of two for configuration.
Again say –> Next.

Step14:- Provide database connection for domain configuration metadata.
I have used Oracle database 10g Express edition (XE) for metadata.
Provide userid/password/Connection string/Service name/URL.
Here you need to give proper Database Service Name.So how to know your service name?
For that you need to open the tnsnames.org file.Path for this is,C:\app\<my-system name>\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN. This is the path for your database tns names.
open the tnsnames.org file in note pad.In the file you can see like,
ORCL =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = orcl.168.187.130)
)
)
In that you can see service name i.e  orcl.168.187.130.
Give this name in 'Data Service Name' box below.
Now “Test connection”. If everything is fine, you will get a message like:-

Step15:- Information for PowerCenter domain.
Enter Domain name, Node name, Domain user name & Password of your choice.
Domain host name:- either machine name or localhost (assuming local installation).

Click on Advanced Configuration.

If you are not an advanced user, I will suggest you to not to change anything here. Just say –> OK
Step16:- Wait for a moment.Configuration is going on behind the screen.

Step17:- This will be last Step in Informatica PowerCenter 8.6 server installation on Windows 7 operating system.
If you want to run Informatica Services under a different user account, check the box and provide credentials.
Else uncheck the box.
Note:- In my case, I wanted to run informatica services under my userid of laptop, I unchecked this box.

Step18:- Once you click Next, you will get Post-installation Summary screen, saying that Installation status is successful.

FINAL STEP:Admin Console and Creating Repository Service.
you can open the admin console using https://<Your-System name>:8443/adminconsole/
Once it opens login using default username:Administrator and pwd:Administrator.
